It's been a long time coming. We've been waiting our turn to have Thurne View's quay heading and cut repaired and replaced for the last few months, but the cottage itself has been waiting far longer - possibly decades - to have the much needed work done.

The quay heading is the wooden frontage where the garden reaches the waters of the Thurne and where boats tie up, or can be taken off the main river into our private "cut". Over many years, the original wooden planks driven into the riverbed to hold back the water have rotted away, contributing to flooding and undermining of the river bank. And it doesn't look very nice either.

It's a pretty major piece of work involving barges and bobcat diggers as you can see! None of the work affects the building, but I'm afraid the garden is going to look a bit untidy for a few weeks while grass grows back in and the soil settles. On the plus side, there's a brand new heading and much less soggy lawn to look forward to!
